PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool which can respond to a request for high acceleration-deceleration of recent years, by reducing a residual vibration generated in positioning. SOLUTION: When constituting this machine tool, a column 3 is arranged and fixed on a bed 2, and a spindle head 6 for supporting a main spindle 7 is movably arranged in the Z axis direction on a front face 3b' of the column 3. The spindle head 6 is arranged so that a pair of left-right Z axis ball screws (a amain spindle driving shaft) for driving the gravity center vicinity of this spindle head, become substantially symmetrical with the front face 3b' of the column 3, and a surface parallel to the Y axis including the axis C of the spindle head 6, to thereby drive the gravity center vicinity of the spindle head 6.
