There is provided a program recording device capable of specifying a start position of a reserved program when a program preceding the reserved program is extended. A recording/reproduction device (100) detects a soundless frame by a non-sound detection section (108), calculates the interval time between the detected soundless frames, and judges whether the program broadcast between the soundless frames is a CM or not by using the calculated interval time by an index registration section (109). If the program is judged to be a CM, the interval time is added to the CM time and stored. If the program is judged to be other than a CM, the recording/reproduction device (100) judges whether the CM time stored exceeds a predetermined threshold value. If the time is judged to exceed the predetermined threshold value, index information is generated from the recording ID and the display time of the soundless frame broadcast between the CM and the program and the index information generated is recorded in an index information storage section (104).
