PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of achieving high density recording in hologram recording without the omission of the information of signal light. SOLUTION: An area corresponding to the intensity distribution of the signal light on a recording medium is irradiated with a reference light to record a hologram. For example, a reference light having about the same intensity distribution as that of the signal light is generated and only nearly the same area as a substantial area irradiated with the signal light (signal light defocus area) is irradiated with the reference light, whereby only an essential area can be exposed and exposure of an extra area is prevented. Accordingly, a hologram can be recorded without omission of the information of the signal beam and high density recording can be achieved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
