The displacement game (1) comprises a rectangular container which has a game field limited by edge strips, on which several game components with rectangular and square basic surfaces are movable parallel to the edge strips (2,4). The game components (8,9,10,11,14) have different outer dimensions. The game in its start of play state has a square empty position (13). A game component has a recess on its under side to accommodate a further such component. Such a component has a lower height than the recess which accommodates it. An edge strip recess is so designed that a game component (11) is removable through it whilst a further game component (9) remains on the game field (3).
