<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater having excellent energy efficiency, and not requiring large mass or a large space for installation. <P>SOLUTION: This heat pump water heater has: a compressor; a first heat exchanger heat-exchanging water and a refrigerant discharged from the compressor; a decompressor decompressing the refrigerant from the first heat exchanger; a second heat exchanger provided between the decompressor and the compressor; a hot water supply tank storing the water heated by the first heat exchanger; and a water circulation path returning the water in the hot water supply tank to the hot water supply tank through the first heat exchanger.
