PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem with an environment where storage is concentrated wherein a number of unused areas arise, precluding effective use of storage resources as storage pools. SOLUTION: The service capacity (data capacity) of a storage device (volume) allocated to a computer is obtained and the future service capacity is predicted from changes in the data capacity. The ceiling and bottom secured capacities showing respectively the upper and lower limits of the appropriate allocated capacity calculated from the predicted service capacity are compared to the capacity of the storage device; if the capacity of the storage device (old device) is greater than the ceiling secured capacity, the storage device (new device) not less than the bottom secured capacity nor more than the ceiling secured capacity is allocated from the storage pools while the old device is recovered to the storage pools.
