PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To output a color image of high quality whose voids and interference fringes are inconspicuous even at a highlight part by using a dither method. SOLUTION: Disclosed is an image processing method, in which minimum density that can be outputted with a basic dither matrix is regarded as a boundary value and 2nd dither processing is carried out for image data of C and M by using an extended dither matrix 9 when the density of the image data of C and M is less than the boundary value. When the density of the image data of C is larger than the boundary value and the density of the image data of M is less than the boundary value, or when the density of the image data of C is smaller than the boundary value and the density of the image data of M is larger than the boundary value, 1st dither processing using the basic dither matrix 8 is carried out for the image data of C or M whose density is smaller than the boundary value.
