<p>Most unreacted alkane settles out and is separated. The remainder is steam-distilled with So2 pref. at 80-250 degrees C and 50-760 mm Hg esp. 100-110 degrees C and 50-100 mm hg. H2SO4, pref. 50-95% esp. 65-80% conc., separates on standing without heating and is removed leaving the alkanes sulphonic acid. This procedure gives a product which is less discoloured then previously. A lower temp. is required for steam-distillation and the heat-consumption is lower. Alkane sulphonic acids are surfactants.</p> |
