PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation in luminance, the deterioration of vertical contrast, etc., by correcting the distortion of a driving waveform of a matrix type display device. SOLUTION: A clock CKL 2 of a frequency of N times the clock of a frequency of 1H is used. A correction value formed by a configuration of a digital differentiating circuit is added to data B in a row direction of absence of correction (at the time of no load) of a display panel. The driving waveform D formed from the row direction data added with the correction value is subjected to correction of distortion and is made steep in a front edge and rear edge. Consequently, the degradation in the luminance of each pixel can be corrected and the deterioration in the vertical direction contrast can be corrected without sacrificing the resolution in a level direction. Also, the amount of correction is regulated based on the correction data stored in a memory and therefore the difference in the light emission characteristics of the pixels can be corrected as well and uniform light emission of the respective pixels is made possible.
