PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove sand irrespective of a particle size of sediment. SOLUTION: In a sand removal device 7 for removing the sand by sucking in the sediment 2, accumulated in a reservoir 1 such as a dam lake, by means of a sand removal pipe 3, a suction opening 6 of the pipe 3 is provided with a sheet-like member 5 which is expanded in a radially outward direction with respect to the suction opening 6 so as to cover a surface 4 of the sediment 3; a water channel 16, which serves as a channel space connected to the suction opening 6 from a peripheral edge 15 of the member 5, is formed on the backside of the member 5; and the sediment 2 on the backside of the member 5 is sucked in and removed with water.
