PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing the waiting time and reducing power consumption of the apparatus by automatically setting the time zone shifting to a save power mode according to a use frequency of the apparatus by a user. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus provided with a fixing unit 10 with a heat roll 21 and a press roll 22, a function to retain the temperature in the fixing unit 10 to be a constant temperature in the vicinity of the target temperature, a function to change over the target temperature according to the state of the equipment, a preheating control function to transit to a preheating mode saving energy by reducing the target temperature of the fixing unit and a control means 28 with a counting function, counting the number of times printing is requested in a fixed time zone are provided. The control means 28 is controlled so that transition to the preheating mode is carried out in the time zone when the printing request number of times is≤specified number of times based on the counted result.
