PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method by which a situation that a cold cathode tube lamp attains stable light quantity is accurately and quickly confirmed in accordance with ambient temperature in the case of starting up the cold cathode tube lamp before image reading operation is performed in an image scanner equipped with a cold cathode tube lamp as a light source. SOLUTION: The light quantity in the case of starting up the cold cathode tube lamp is detected by a photosensor for reading an image in order at every reference time. After the rate of change of the light quantity at every reference time based on the result of the detection becomes equal to or under a reference value, the image reader is shifted to an image reading operation feasible state.
