PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound which can be preferably used as a surfactant, and a method for producing a fluorine-containing polymer, a surfactant and an aqueous dispersion of a fluorine-containing polymer using the same. SOLUTION: The fluoroalkyl carboxylic acid derivative is represented by the general formula : Rf<SP>1</SP>(OCH<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n1</SB>OCX<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>CF<SB>2</SB>(Rf<SP>2</SP>)<SB>n2</SB>COOM. (In the formula Rf<SP>1</SP>represents a straight chain or branched fluoroalkyl group having 1-20 carbon atoms, wherein fluoroalkyl group may have 1-5 oxygen atoms in the main chain; Rf<SP>2</SP>represents a straight chain or branched fluoroalkylene group having 1-25 carbon atoms, wherein fluoroalkylene group may have 1-5 oxygen atoms in the main chain; n1 is an integer of 0-3; n2 is 0 or 1; X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>may be the same or different, and represent hydrogen atoms or fluorine atoms; and M represents NH<SB>4</SB>or a monovalent metal element).
