<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus employing a bias cleaning system which hardly causes sticking of a final transfer body and an intermediate transfer body. <P>SOLUTION: The surface roughness Rz of intermediate transfer bodies 20, 30 is required to be equal to or less than the particle size of the toner when a spheric toner having a small particle size is used to improve the picture quality. Specifically, the surface roughness Rz is ≤10 μm, preferably ≤1 μm. The surface roughness Rz of a second intermediate transfer body 30 can not be larger than 10 μm under the assumption of using a small particle toner, specifically, a toner having ≤10 μm average particle size. If the surface roughness Rz of a final transfer body 40 is ≤3.0 μm, the body easily sticks to the second intermediate transfer body 30 having about 1 μm surface roughness. If the surface roughness of the final transfer body exceeds 20 μm, cleaning property deteriorates. By specifying the surface roughness Rz of the final transfer body 40 to a range of 5.0 to 20.0 μm, the final transfer body 40 has excellent cleaning property and hardly sticks to the second intermediate transfer body 30 corresponding to small size toner even at high temperature and high humidity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
