PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precharge time setting method for an automatic transmission and the automatic transmission having precharge time setting function using the same. SOLUTION: An electronic control part performs precharge control for holding a friction engagement element to be learned and set at first precharge pressure Pi and monitors a turbine rotating speed Nt until the turbine rotating speed Nt reaches a preset guard rotating speed. When a change of the turbine rotating speed Nt is satisfied with preset conditions (for example, the turbine rotating speed shows a tendency to reduce continuously n-times due to others than noises), a piston is determined to be in contact and a time interval ti between a current time and a precharge control starting time is found. Subsequently, the electronic control part finds a second precharge time tr at second precharge pressure Pr fixed separately from the precharge pressure Pi and the time interval ti and learns and sets it.
