PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a question answering device that can answer with appropriate explanation information depending on the type of an answer to a question. SOLUTION: An input part 1 inputs a question sentence, an answer type analysis part 2 computes an answer type required for an answer, and an answer search part 3 extracts an answer to be returned. A dictionary search part 4 acquires a plurality of types of explanation information defined about a term matching the answer from a term dictionary 12. According to the answer type, an answer edit part 5 selects one or a plurality of pieces of explanation information included in the answer from the plurality of types of explanation information acquired by the dictionary search part 4, and generates answer information including the extracted answer and the selected explanation information.
