A method for generating an artificial neural network for data processing requires iteratively optimizing an input dimension of the neural network by using an information-theory procedure with which statistical dependencies of one or more output variables of the input variables are analyzed, and where a specifiable minimum input dimension is iteratively raised until it is known that a specifiable data processing quality is attained.
