[Also in Division B3] A device for roughening the inturned gussets of lasted uppers in the manufacture of articles of footwear includes a rotatable roughening tool having a cylindrical roughening periphery and a radial end face covered by a coaxial abutment disc, the radius of the abutment disc being less than the radius of the roughening tool by an amount equal to the thickness of the surface layer to be removed from the inturned gussets. A drive shaft 2 mounted in a pillar of a machine carries roughening tools 3, 4 having on their outer faces discs 16, 17. Associated with the tools 3, 4 are stops 5, 6 clamped at their upper ends to a spindle 7; the spacing of the stops is determined by threaded sleeves 11, 12. The spindle 7 is carried by a vertical shaft adjustable vertically in a sleeve secured to the machine pillar. |
