PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing an indole compound, having a highly general adaptability. SOLUTION: This method for producing the indole compound by cyclizing 2-nitrobenzylcarbonyl compound in the presence of a catalyst of a metal belonging to group VIII of the Periodic table is provided by performing the production under an atmosphere containing carbon monoxide.
