PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera that exerts exposure control in which auto-focusing is taken into account. SOLUTION: The digital camera includes: a focusing control means which controls the auto-focusing of an optical system; a photometer means which obtains the brightness of a subject from image data obtained by an imaging means during a standby period for photographing; and a diaphragm value setting means which sets the diaphragm value of the optical system based upon the brightness of the subject. When the brightness of the subject is higher than a predetermined reference value, the focusing control means exerts the auto-focusing control, and thereafter the diaphragm value setting means sets the diaphragm value of the optical system to a value higher than that used for auto-focusing control, and the photometer means obtains the brightness of the subject.
