PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording element eliminating the pole erase which is the problem intrinsic to perpendicular magnetic recording. SOLUTION: A soft magnetic film 111 has an axis of difficult magnetization in a direction of generating a perpendicular recording magnetic field and has an axis of easy magnetization in a direction orthogonal to the direction of the perpendicular recording magnetic field.
