PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium for high-density recording which is excellent in traveling stability and durability. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium provided with a magnetic layer on one side and a back layer on the opposite side, the back layer contains carbon black and nonmagnetic needle-shape powder, whose Mohs's hardness is at least 5 and not more than 8, at a ratio in weight of 40/60 to 10/90, and polyurethane resin and acryl resin, as a bonding agent, wherein the acryl resin constitutes 10-50% of the total mass of the bonding agents.
