PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaporator suitable for vapor compression type refrigerator using carbon dioxide as a cooling medium. SOLUTION: The equation [447×Wp/ä10^(1.54×log<SB>10</SB>S)}-533/ä10^(1.98×log<SB>10</SB>S)}]≤Ti≤[447×Wp/ä10^(1.54×log<SB>10</SB>S)}-533/ä10^(1.98×log<SB>10</SB>S)}]x1.8 is established. To/Ti is defined to be≥0.2 and≤2.6, the dimension Ht is defined to be≥0.8 mm and≤2 mm, and the tensile strength S is defined to be≥50 (N/mm<SP>2</SP>) and≤220(N/mm<SP>2</SP>).
