STABLE ORAL SUSPENSION OF AZITHROMYCIN NON-DIHYDRATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mitigate the bitter taste of azithromycin non-dihydrate, powder for oral suspension containing an excipient for converting and stabilizing azithromycin and an oral suspension prepared from the powder. SOLUTION: The conversion of the form of azithromycin non-dihydrate in an oral suspension is suppressed by adding a surface tension decreasing excipient to lower the surface tension of an aqueous vehicle. The invention further provides a method for suppressing the conversion of azithromycin non-dihydrate in an unflavored oral suspension by increasing the viscosity of the oral suspension. In the case of a flavored oral suspension, the conversion can be suppressed by lowering the viscosity of the oral suspension. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
