PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device free of machinery room applicable to an arrangement where a thin-form synchronous motor is used for driving the elevator car, capable of making thin its hoist including the synchronous motor. SOLUTION: The elevator device free of machinery room is structured so that the hoist equipped with the thin-form synchronous motor 4, a brake drum 5, and a sheave 7 is installed on the wall surface 17 of the elevator shaft. In this elevator device, a frictional driving wheel 11 having a smaller diameter than a flange 7A of the sheave 7 is abutted to the flange 7A.
