Remotely controlled electrostatic spray guns comprise front and rear body sections 12, 11, releasable means for connecting said bodies, said front section having a liquid passage 54 containing a valve 40 and terminating in a discharge orifice 45, said rear section comprising a remotely operable control member such as a motor with reciprocable power operated control member 21 and means for operatively connecting the control member 21 and the valve comprising members 53 and 58 movable with the valve and control member and a coupling device which automatically connects said members when the sections are connected and disconnects said members when the sections are separated. The device may comprise a piston 21 biased forwardly by spring 24 and held in intermediate position when the sections are joined and valve 40 is closed. When the front section 12 is unscrewed from the threaded collar 34 held on the rear section by snap ring 35, the spring 24 moves the piston 21 and its extension forwardly, the balls 60 move into groove 62 releasing plug 57 attached to valve stem 53. |
