摘要 An upper component(2) with at least one shank(17) having a contact face and a lower component(3) with a wall(21) having a rib(19) are held in positionable upper(11) and lower(23) holders. Each ribbed wall(21) of the lower component is inserted between a shank and wall(13) of the upper component. Insertion depth is either: a) to a predetermined point which leaves a gap between the wall end and an inner face of a shank shoulder or b) until stops on the upper end of the wall contact the inner face of the shank shoulder. Both components are then laser welded together along the rib(19). Components(2,3) may be positioned first and then welded or both operations can be performed simultaneously. The upper holder may be a claw(11) or a component holder and the lower holder a claw(23) or workpiece holder. During welding: a) the components in holders may be in a fixed position and the laser moved relative to them; b) the laser is fixed and the components and holders moved or c) components and laser may be moved relative to each other. An independent claim is included for a housing(1) manufactured by the process which comprises a cover(2) with a pre-installed upper component(7) and a lower part(3) with pre-installed lower component(25). Positioning of either: a) upper and lower pre-installed components; b) the upper pre-installed component and housing lower part or c) the housing cover and lower pre-installed component or d) the housing cover and the housing lower part, relative to each other is achieved with a tolerance of not >0.05mm.
