The battery, of given size and with anode and cathode of different metals or alloys, has included in its cathode an absorbent, porous body whose dimensions conform to the cathode and made of fibres which are temperature resistant at relatively high temperatures. They are so arranged that there are voids between them and these voids are filled with lead chloride by dipping the body into molten lead chloride. A conductive cladding of lead is added to facilitate the chemical reaction at the electrode. The fibre materials withstand a temperature of 538 degrees C without damage, silica and alumina being suitable.
|
