1,063,953. Hydraulic rotary pomps and motors. O. BJORNDAL. March 23, 1964 [March 30, 1963], No. 12176/64. Heading F1F. A rotary pump or motor for use in hydraulic transmission systems, comprises a two-part housing 10,11, Fig. 1, rotatably mounting first and second parallel shafts 14, 18, to which are keyed axially-spaced rotors 20, 22 driven in opposite directions through gears 16, 17 and sealingly rotating in chambers 24, 25 which overlap each other at 26. The rotor 20 is formed with diametrically opposite segments (29), (30), Fig. 2 (not shown) projecting axially from the rotor towards the rotor 22 whilst the rotor 22 is formed with similar segments (31), (32) projecting axially towards the rotor 20 so that they co-operate with each other to transfer liquid from an inlet (27) to an outlet (28). The rotors 20, 22 are mounted between thrust bearings 21, 23 respectively and each rotor is provided with ducts 34 located between the segments to connect recesses 33 behind the rotors to hydraulically balance the rotors against axial thrust. Liquid discharged from the system passes into the housing through an opening 41 and through ducts 41a in the shafts 14, 18 to lubricate the thrust bearings and roller bearings, 13, 19 bearingly supporting the shafts. The number of segments on the rotors may be increased. In another embodiment, there are three rotors instead of two whereby by suitable connection of the two inlets and two outlets the two pumps or motors may be connected in series or parallel. |
