发明名称 Anordnung zur Temperaturstabilisierung eines digitalen optischen Brennweitenmodulators
摘要 1,263,297. Light modulation. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 3 April, 1969 [6 April, 1968], No. 17580/69. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G2] A digital focal length modulator comprises a plurality of birefringent lenses and electrooptical polarization switches e.g. Kerr cells disposed alternately along the optical axis, the effective curvatures, i.e. the sum of the reciprocals of the radii of curvature of the two outer faces of each lens (convex surfaces being positive and concave, negative), of successive lenses being doubled, and is characterized in that the lens having the greatest effective curvature numerically has a curvature of opposite sign to those of the remaining lenses, to reduce the effect of the temperature acting via the refractive index of the ambient medium e.g. nitrobenzene, on the angular aperture of a polarized light beam passing therethrough. An isotropic lens having an effective curvature equal to that of the lowest powered birefringent lens and a refractive index equal to the mean refractive index of the birefringent material may be placed in front of the first lens. In the latter stages of the modulator, where thin lens laws do not apply, it must be ensured that the isotropic complementary lenses of the surrounding medium together give a negligible effective curvature. Thus in Fig. 5 (not shown) the final stage is shown as comprising a birefringent lens formed of a piano-convex and a complementary plano-concave element.
