A raisable and lowerable bed includes a bedstead (3) which is supported by a generally horizontal cantilever (2) that extends beneath the bedstead and that is mounted at one end for vertical movement in a frame structure (1) which extends between floor and ceiling, while remaining in a horizontal position. A counterweight device (4) is suspended by a line, chain or the like that runs from the cantilever (2) and over a guide roller mounted at the upper end of the frame structure for the purpose of balancing the weight of the bedstead and the cantilever. The frame structure (1) includes but a single rail in which the cantilever (2) is mounted on wheels at one end thereof for movement in the vertical direction of the rail. |
