A method for producing coal seam gas from a coal seam and a method for producing formation gas from a gas bearing formation including forming a drainage pattern that has auxiliary drainage bores arranged in substantially equal and parallel spacing on opposite sides of an axis of the drainage pattern. Water and the substance to be produced (i.e. coal seam gas or formation gas) are then simultaneously produced through the drainage pattern.
