PURPOSE: An absolute angle detecting apparatus is provided to realize two code pattern rows, eight or nine detecting elements, and a resolution of 1.5 degrees by using a rotation angle conversion unit. CONSTITUTION: An absolute angle detecting apparatus includes a rotary disk, a first code pattern row and a second code pattern row, a first detecting element group, a second detecting element group, and a rotation angle conversion unit. The rotary disk is rotatably supported. The first code pattern row and the second pattern row are provided on the circumference of which center is the center of rotation of the rotary disk. The first detecting element group includes plural detecting elements. The detecting element is arranged at the same intervals in opposition to the first code pattern row. The second detecting element group includes plural detecting elements. The detecting elements are arranged at the same intervals opposite to the second code pattern row.
