PURPOSE: A system and a method for identifying a fingerprint on a mobile communication terminal using a minutia comparing method are provided to implement a fingerprint identification system on the mobile communication terminal having a small storage space and a low processing speed at low cost without improving a specification of the terminal. CONSTITUTION: A fingerprint inputting module(10) receives/preprocesses/outputs fingerprint image data after sensing the fingerprint of a user. A fingerprint identifying module(20) registers the fingerprint of the user by extracting fingerprint minutia from the preprocessed fingerprint image data and classifying/storing a pattern to a fingerprint database(24), certifies the fingerprint by comparing the inputted minutia with the stored minutia, and outputs a fingerprint identification result for the user. A managing module(30) displays the fingerprint identification result, and transfers a fingerprint identification command to the fingerprint inputting module and the fingerprint identifying module.
