POLYCYCLIC NORBORNENE-BASED POLYMER CONTAINING IMIDE GROUP, SATURATED NORBORNENE-BASED POLYMER, AND THEIR PREPARATION METHODS

PURPOSE: Provided are a norbornene-based polymer, a saturated norbornene-based polymer which is improved in heat resistance and transparency, and their preparation methods. CONSTITUTION: The norbornene-based polymer is represented by the formula 1 and the saturated norbornene-based polymer is represented by the formula 2, wherein R is a C3-C24 alkyl or cycloalkyl group. The norbornene-based polymer of the formula 1 is prepared by solution polymerizing a 1,1a,4,4a,5,6,7,8-octahydro-1,4-methanonaphthalene-6,7-dicarboxylic acid alkyl or cycloalkyl imide in the presence of a ruthenium phenylidene catalyst at a temperature of 0-80 deg.C for 1-12 hours. The saturated norbornene-based polymer is prepared by reacting the polymer of the formula 1 with high pressure hydrogen gas in the presence of a palladium catalyst, or stirring the polymer of the formula 1 in the presence of p-toluenesulfonhydrazide under inert gas atmosphere at a temperature of 120-180 deg.C for 4-24 hours.
