METHOD FOR ASSIGNING AN IP ADDRESS IN AN ETHERNET PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK, ESPECIALLY WITH REGARDS TO EMBEDDING A DHCP SERVER IN AN OLT

PURPOSE: A method for assigning an IP address in an EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) is provided to embed a DHCP server in an OLT to use information on each ONT of the OLT, thereby easily controlling an IP address assignment of subscriber hosts in accordance with each ONT. CONSTITUTION: An EPON DHCP server(102) sets IP address pools in accordance with each ONT(116)(210). The ONT(116) transmits an IP lease request message to the EPON DHCP server(102)(220). The DHCP server(102) retrieves an ONT where a host is located by an MAC address of the IP address-requesting host(230). The DHCP server(102) assigns one available IP address to the ONT(116)(240), and sends an IP lease acknowledgement message including the assigned IP address to the ONT(116)(250). The ONT(116) transmits an affirmative response to the DHCP server(102)(260).
