PURPOSE: A double-sided LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to reduce power consumption in a backlight by using a double-sided light source emitting light at both sides of it as the backlight and by displaying an image, with switching liquid crystal panels. CONSTITUTION: A double-sided light source emits light at both sides of it. The double-sided light source as a backlight is placed at a certain part of each surface of liquid crystal panels(11,13) capable of displaying an image. A light emission area variating part changes a light emission area of the double-sided light source in accordance with location and area of the liquid crystal panels. A switching part(40) switches the light emission area variating part in response to display timing of the liquid crystal panels.
