PURPOSE: A method of extracting a face region through color distribution learning is provided to make it possible to process data fast and extract an accurate face region in real time even though a face color to be photographed is changed due to various face colors of persons. CONSTITUTION: An input video signal is classified into a unit frame and displayed(S211). A face color similarity degree is calculated by a ratio of frequency that a certain color is observed in entire images and frequency that the certain color belongs to a face on a basis of the unit frame according to face region range information specified by a user(S215). The calculated face color similarity degree is matched with a color and thereby a table of the face color similarity degree is filled(S217). The face color similarity degree of a corresponding unit frame is read from the table thereof and thereby a gray image is formed(S219). Color data of each pixel is changed into binary data based on the gray image and a face region is classified by ellipse approximation and then extracted(S220).
