Oxidative treatment of a fluorinated polymer (I) involves irradiating (I), in the form of films, plates, granules or powder, with photon (gamma ) or electron (beta ) radiation in presence of oxygen, optionally followed by treament to remove at least part of the impurities present. Independent claims are included for: (1) structures (A) comprising at least one layer of oxidized (I) prepared as above and at least one layer of other material (II); and (2) oxidized fluorinated polymers (I') as new compounds; and (3) blends of (I') with other polymer(s) (II) selected from the corresponding non-oxidized polymers (I), other fluorinated polymers and non-fluorinated polymers.
