PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vinyl acetal-based polymer excellent in thermal decomposition property, and a method for producing the same, improved in working property and exhibiting a good efficiency by shortening its working time required for the preparation of an aqueous PVA solution used for the production of the vinyl acetal-based polymer. SOLUTION: This method for producing the vinyl acetal-based polymer is provided by preparing the aqueous vinyl alcohol-based polymer solution having 1.8-3 mol % amount of 1,2-glycol bond, 100-8,000 degree of polymerization and 80-99.99 mol % degree of saponification and subjecting the aqueous vinyl alcohol-based solution under an acetal-formation reaction.
