PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester resin composition which comprises a composite system of a polyester resin and a lamellar inorganic particle and has an improved mechanical property, stiffness, gas-barrier property, melting characteristic, or the like. SOLUTION: The polyester resin composition contains 0.1-50 pts.mass foliar silica having a face diameter of 0.01-10μm based on 100 pts.mass polyester resin. The composition is prepared by compounding the foliar silica with the polyester resin in an arbitrary step before the completion of polycondensation of the polyester resin and subsequently completing the polycondensation.
