<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device having a desired lifetime by preventing an outside lead from being broken by reducing a temperature of the lead protruded from a sealing part during the lighting of a lamp. <P>SOLUTION: The optical device comprises a ultra-high voltage mercury lamp composed of a discharge container having a light-emitting part 11 and the sealing part formed with continuation to both ends of the light-emitting part 11 and an external lead 17 protruded outward from the sealing part connected to a metal film embedded in the sealing part; and a reflection mirror disposed to surround the mercury lamp and having front glass 26 in a direction of light emission. In the optical device, the external lead 17 is provided with a heat dissipating member made of metal and a covering layer made of low melting point glass so as to surround a protruded part outward from the sealing part positioned on the front glass side, and moreover, the external lead is made to contact with either or both of the heat dissipating member and the covering layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
