<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which is made to correspond to background density fluctuations (especially, two-dimensionally continuous fluctuation) due to an original, a reader condition, etc., without the necessity of prescanning, can detect a background level without erroneously recognizing the highlight area of a continuous tone as a background, and can appropriately correct an input image signal. <P>SOLUTION: Background level prediction processing 306 predicts the background level of an attentional area by referring to background levels of an attentional area corresponding section stored as a peripheral section adjacent to an attentional area in a background level buffer 303 and determined in the preceding line and its right and left adjacent sections. Background level determining processing 308 corrects the predicted background level image data of the attentional area when a feature extracted from the image data of the attentional area satisfies the whole background feature (which has no unevenness in brightness and darkness, is achromatic, and brighter than a fixed level) and regards a predicted value as a background level to use the predicted value for background correction when the feature does not satisfy the whole background feature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
