PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase monitoring accuracy while avoiding an increase in the amount of computations. SOLUTION: A driving situation within a monitored area in front of one's own vehicle is recognized by a preview sensor 2. A monitoring part 8 determines a subject to be monitored according to the degree of risk of an object within the monitored area, and monitors the determined subject to be monitored. An information acquisition part 6 acquires information showing the situation in front of the one's own vehicle from infrastructures provided on the road. A setting part 7 has a first and a second monitored area as switchable monitored areas, and switches the first to second monitored area or vice versa according to the information that the information acquisition part 6 acquires. The first monitored area is set as an area covering a lane where the one's own vehicle travels. The second monitored area is set as an area containing and being wider than the first monitored area.
