PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device capable of compensating stationary deviation between a predicted value of plant output and detected output so as to improve control precision. SOLUTION: In this control device 1, quantity of air sucked into cylinders #1-#4 through a variable intake valve drive unit 40 is freely varied. An ECU 2 in it determines cylinder intake air quantity Gcyl and target intake air quantity Gcyl_cmd (step 16), predicts predicted intake air quantity Pre_Gcyl by a predicting expression (7) including a compensation parameterγ1 as an addition item for compensating the stationary deviation between the predicted intake air quantity Pre_Gcyl and the cylinder intake air quantity Pre_Gcyl, identifies a prediction coefficient vectorθs to minimize identification error ide by identification expressions 8-13, and determines target auxiliary intake cam phaseθmsi_cmd by sliding mode control algorism of expressions 15-21 (step 80).
