Embodiments of a crash simulator sled assembly (100) are disclosed. The crash simulator sled assembly (100) can include a sled (102; 502), an element (124) movable relative to the sled (102; 502), and a force element (140; 224; 524; 602), such as a damper assembly (140; 224; 524) or actuator assembly (602), coupled to the element (124). A second sled (222; 522) can also be connected to the element (124). The damper assembly (140; 224; 524) can control relative movement of the element (124) relative to the sled (102; 502), while the actuator assembly (602) can develop force to replace force attributable to mass. This provides advantages for efficient and effective test crash simulation and research.
