Head rest (10) for the back rest of a car seat, especially a rear seat, comprises a guide part (12) and a support part (14) arranged above the guide part and adjustable in height relative to the guide part. The support part has a horizontal holding section (24) connected to at least one guide rod (26) and a downward-extending deformable section (30) with a padded section. The guide rod is guided in a hollow head rest rod (20) and the deformable section is constructed with the padded section and a receiving channel (22) so that more or less of the deformable section is held in the receiving channel depending on the height of the support part.
