A structured surfactant composition containing one or more branched alkyl (ether) sulfates according to the formula: RO(CH2 CH2O)n SO3M, wherein R is branched (C8-C18)alkyl or branched (C8-C18)alkenyl, n has an average value o f from 0 to about 7 and M is a solubilizing cation, provided that M cannot be sodium if n is greater than or equal to 1, and a structurant, wherein the composition exhibits non-Newtonian shear thinning viscosity and is capable o f suspending insoluble or partially insoluble components.
