PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium composition for culturing or preserving human hepatocyte or hepatic tissue, particularly the composition for maintaining on cultured hepatocyte the expression ability of a metabolic enzyme and of a protein serving as a hepatic function indicator.

SOLUTION: The medium composition is such as to be intended for maintaining on cultured hepatocyte the expression ability of the metabolic enzyme and of the protein serving as the hepatic function indicator. This composition is obtained by formulating a basal medium with a fat emulsion.
