摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize an air supply part and prevent damage to a catalyst from a thermal runaway. <P>SOLUTION: Pluralities of catalytic parts 41 and 42 for catalyzing the reaction of fuel and oxygen to generate hot gas, and heat exchange parts 51 and 52 for exchanging heat between a circulating heating medium and the gas to heat the heating medium are alternately arranged in series along a gas flow. The amount of fuel and oxygen supplied to the upstream catalytic part 41 is set at an amount exceeding the amount whose reaction at the upstream catalytic part 41 can be made. The excess supply of fuel and oxygen to the upstream catalytic part 41 causes the supplied fuel to only partly react with the oxygen in the upstream catalytic part 41 and the remaining fuel and oxygen to pass through as unreacted gas. The heat of reaction is consumed as energy for increasing the temperature of the unreacted gas, so that the reaction temperature in the upstream catalytic part 41 is a low reaction temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
